NOTR - Flavel & The Ungodly Nation - 1.22.16

Today's Show: FLAVEL & THE UNGODLY NATION

Chris continues his discussion of the Biblical warnings concerning what happens to a nation that forgets God.  In the 17th century, a Puritan minister named John Flavel published his "Warnings to an Ungodly Nation," describing the process of how the Lord warns a nation beforehand, so that they might repent before entering into judgment.  Flavel argues that because God does not change, His warnings apply in every generation.

Excellent program Chris!
These warnings should be echoed from every pulpit in America today! Unfortunately this is often not the case. It reminds me of the passage in Ezekiel:
Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand. (Eze 33:2-6)

Also the warnings that we as Christians need to take heed of as well:

For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? (1Pe 4:17-18)

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2Ch_7:14)

I love what William Tyndale stated in his work "The Obedience of A Christian Man (1528)"
The preaching of God’s word is hateful and contrary unto them. Why? For it is impossible to preach Christ, except thou preach against antichrist; that is to say, them which with their false doctrine and violence of sword enforce to quench the true doctrine of Christ. And as thou canst heal no disease, except thou begin at the root; even so canst thou preach against no mischief, except thou begin at the bishops.
